The Way I Think – Part 2

How do we take control back from these ‘Cognitive Distortions’, where do we start?

Now that we know how our mind can work against us in the form of ‘Cognitive Distortions’, we can begin turning these negative thoughts around.

The first step to controlling these ‘Cognitive Distortions’ or negative thoughts, is to think about how these thoughts are making you ‘FEEL’.

There are many different feelings/emotions that a person can experience, some good and some not so good. The emotions we have, are what makes us react to situations.

Positive emotions can be:

Happiness, Joy, Love, Excitement, Anticipation, Admiration, Serenity, Surprise etc.

Negative emotions can be:

Anger, Fear, Sadness, Rage, Distrust, Boredom, Annoyance, Contempt, Jealousy etc.

Generally, our ‘Cognitive Distortions’ will trigger negative feelings, these negative feelings/emotions can be very difficult for people to deal with. The more we can understand how this process works, the better control we can have over ourselves and our lives. What kind of emotions do you have throughout the day? Can you label them all? Try reflecting on these questions.
