A Message To Our Players from the President

To our players,

We understand that this is a worrying time for us all and that there are genuine fears and anxiety about what is happening around us. Rumba’s greatest successes have come when we have banded together, have been focused and looked out for each other in the process. This time is no different and during what is a stressful time, our board hope to help us all work through this together by communicating important information to help us stay well, safe and informed.

Our immediate concern is for the health and wellbeing of yours, your families and close friends.

COVID-19 is not going away soon, and we need to play our part to stop the spread.

Social Isolation, Physical Distancing

We can make a difference together by avoiding physical contact with others and maintaining the social distancing measures as advised by the Government. Social distancing, put simply, means to maintain a distance between you and other people – in this case, two big steps or at least 1.5m. This includes other family and especially those most vulnerable that have existing health conditions like heart or cardiovascular issues, diabetes, asthmatic or lung conditions. Now is NOT the time for any social gatherings or unnecessary visits.

2020 MFNL/NCWL Season

There are no games or training up until 31st May, at the earliest.

All training has been postponed and the Club is closed until further notice following Government advice. The Club will not be open for visitors and only essential staff are permitted to enter.

Will provide further updates as they come to hand.  We want you to stay active, you need to keep healthy, but do not push yourself too hard. With public areas restricted and gyms closed, keeping fit will be difficult. We are working with your coaches to come up with ideas on how to stay active while isolated from others. If you have any suggestions to stay fit, let your coach know.

Information about COVID-19 (Coronavirus):

The COVID-19 disease is spread by close contact with other people. Even if someone doesn’t feel unwell, they may pass it on. These measures are not forever, and they will save lives:

  • Stay at home.
  • No Koori handshakes.
  • No kisses or hugging.
  • No social gatherings.
  • Avoid public spaces and where others may have gathered.
  • Physical distancing – Keep two big steps (1.5m) between you and others. No visiting the sick and elderly.
  • Consider not attending funerals/wakes.
  • Cover your sneeze and coughs into your elbow or a tissue.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap.
  • Try not to touch your face.

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance, do not just show up. If you or someone close to you feels unwell with any of the listed symptoms that you call the Coronavirus hotline which is serviced by Nurse-On-Call on 1800 675 398

In the case you need to go to the Emergency Department please call GV Health on 5832 2322 so they can meet you in the car park with a face mask before entering.

Health and Wellbeing:

In these unprecedented times, we must stay strong and healthy. We will get through this together.

  • Be kind and support everyone through this time.
  • Check in regularly with friends and family. Encourage them to do what they enjoy.
  • Show solidarity with your teammates. Privately share positive messages and photos with each other.
  • Set home fitness challenges like crunches and push-ups.
  • Don’t spread rumours.

It is important that in times of adversity, we rally together to protect our families and values which identify us as a people and club. Play your part in stopping the spread. We will keep you updated as much as we can, but for now we want you all to stay safe, stay active and stay healthy.
